I love Card Challenges, I really do! I make a list every week but sometimes I just can’t get it done but this week I’m excited to create one card that will work for TWO challenges! In the first challenge, #TGIFC96, I’m channeling the creative and talented Bibi Cameron who is fabulously famous for her watercolor flowers. In the second challenge, #HSSCC258, I’m using the exquisite combination of Mint Macaron, Sweet Sugarplum and Tip Top Taupe, don’t they sound yummy?! Sad to say that Mint Macaron and Tip Top Taupe will be retiring colors in June so stock up now with ink pads, reinkers and paper. I’ll be sad to see them go…get yours now!
My entry for the Thank Goodness It’s Friday Challenge #TGIFC96 is honoring the Designer Bibiana (Bibi) Cameron for this Spotlight Challenge Card. The Hand Stamped Sentiments Challenge #HSSCC258 is a Color Challenge Card. Watercolor, flowers and this design went perfect for both challenges.
I picked the stamp set Touches of Texture and I used the flower stamp then I stamped it using Tip Top Taupe. Since Bibi is known for her watercoloring, I decided to watercolor the flowers. The technique to get watercolor ink from your Stampin’ Ink Pads is easy!  I pressed the closed lid of an ink pad against the Sweet Sugarplum Ink a few times using just a little pressure from my fingers. I opened the lid and with a Blender Pen, I used the ink in this area to watercolor the flowers. I went back over a few areas with the matching Sugarplum Stampin’ Marker to darken the centers and around the buds. I used the same technique and pressed the lid of the Mint Macaron Ink Pad, opened it and watercolored the stems with a Blender Pen. Make sure you wipe off the blender pen before you change colors. On a scrap piece of watercolor paper, I wet the surface first, then went over it with an Aqua Painter and Sweet Sugarplum Ink from the lid. I made sure to leave a few areas lighter than others. Let this dry and die cut with the flower from Sunshine Wishes Dies. (This idea came from a NorCal Stampin Event I attended on Saturday with Cathy Williams and Rose-Ellen Crane Eastman).  I love the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies so I cut a Tip Top Taupe scrap piece of cardstock with the 2-5/8″ square. I cut the Whisper White scrap piece of cardstock with the 1-2/8″ square. Pick your size of the larger square, then use the next one down since my measurements are approximate 🙂
I stamped the square of Whisper White using the large splotch from Touches of Texture (this set has 2 boxes and it’s in the 1/2 box) and then stamped off the Mint Macaron Stampin’ Ink before I stamped on the cardstock because I wanted a soft affect.  Stamp Happy Birthday from a versatile set called That’s the Tag in the bottom left corner.  To add a little texture, I used a piece of Sweet Sugarplum from the Succulent Garden 3/8″ Ribbon Combo Pack. (Great value because you get two rolls!)
Assembly was easy. Attach the ribbon by running two strips of snail over the back of the Whisper White piece of Cardstock, then adhere this to the Tip Top Taupe Cardstock card base. Adhere the Whisper White square piece to the Tip Top Taupe Square piece using your favorite adhesive. I attached the watercolored flower to this using the Fine Tip Glue Pen but you could also use Multi-Purpose Glue and a toothpick to get a narrow bead. Â Attach this to the card using Dimensionals. To add a little glimmer, use Wink of Stella over the watercolor flower and in the center of the tiny flowers.
