When Lori Craig designed Field Notes for Taylored Expressions in 2020, I wonder if she realized that this kit would sell out quickly. Guess what…it’s 2021, we’re still in quarantine and Lori Craig’s illustrations are coming alive in Field Notes 2. Until my kit arrives, I am playing with the original Field Notes Kit. It’s fabulous!
Taylor (of Taylored Expressions) did a FaceBook live using the new kit. She did a fabulous technique using Karin Markers so I decided to create some of my own cards.
I used watercolor paper, smushed three colors of Karin Markers on my media mat…sprayed with water and patted my paper into the colors. I dried between layers and kept lifting colors to fill in and deepen areas. Yes, white space is good and I filled up the 4.25 x 5.50″ piece of watercolor paper. I stamped the flowers in VersaMark and embossed with Silver Embossing Powder–remember to use your powder over the watercolor paper before stamping with VersaMark. I used my Misti Stamping Platform so I could double stamp to get a great impression.
I used Taylor’s Masking Stencils, ink and a brush to create the torn edge on the card base and I left the center lighter to highlight the flowers when I started assembling. The kit had the fabulous background stamp that I used behind the flowers.
The next card was ink smushed using Karin Markers and a spritz of water, then embossed with Champagne Embossing Powder. If the flower needed more emphasis on the petals, I deepened the petals by watercoloring with the Karin Markers.
With the bottom two cards, I used my Glimmer Foiling Machine and added a few details. I love embellishing and I have four trays full so I try to use them on all my cards.
Thanks for visiting…see you again soon!
